Acid Violet 17 (CAS No. 4129-84-4), is a vivid blue -purple colouring matter as a powder dye, and is a common reagent in laboratory work. The dye is easily soluble in water, forming a purple solution, and in ethanol it is violet-blue. It appears in the form of a red-light yellow color in sulfuric acid and turns green-light in the dilution. Exposure to nitric acid produces a blue-ray green color and the aqueous solution of nitric acid mixed with sodium hydroxide produces a shallow deep purple color. Violet BNP, Coomassie Violet R, and Formyl Violet are also known as Acid Violet 17.

Applications

  • Electrophoresis and Staining of Proteins: Acid Violet 17 is used to stain proteins in electrophoresis to increase contrast and improve the accuracy of analysis.
  • Blood Staining : Very efficient in detecting blood, as well as in the staining of blood cells, which makes it appropriate in hematology study.

Key features

  • Consistent Performance: Provides reproducible and reliable staining results in routine and advanced lab work.
  • Clear Visualization: Produces high contrast staining that can be examined with the microscope accurately.
