Azure II is a blue crystalline powder, which is made by equal proportions of Azure B and Methylene Blue. This stain, also known as Azur II, is identified by the molecular formula, C16H18N3S·C15H16N3S·2Cl, and is commonly used as a part of hematologic staining in conjunction with Eosin Y. The specific purple nuclear stain is a consequence of molecular interactions between the Azure B -DNA complex and the Eosin Y. The difference in staining intensity may be due to differences in the concentration of dye, buffer system, pH, fixation methods and staining time.
