Bismark Brown Y Certified (CAS No. 10114-58-6) is a dark purple to blackish-brown powder that is very common as a histological stain. It is one of the diazo dyes having the molecular formula C18H18N82HCl and is a dye that has been known to stain the acid mucins a yellow colour. Bismark Brown Y Certified is not only a histology dye, but a fluorochrome and allergen found in miscellaneous applications as well. It also has a number of synonyms, such as 4, 4 -( m -phenylenebisazo )bis-m- phenylenediamine dihydrochloride, Basic Brown 1, Bismark Brown B, and Vesuvine. The solution is clear to turbid in a red-orange or a red color when dissolved in water.
