Bromacresol Green -Methyl Red is a combined pH indicator solution which consists of bromocresol green dye and methyl red dye in an equal proportion mixed in an equal volume of a suitable solvent, usually an alcohol or water. The solution has some color changes according to the pH of the system. Bromocresol green turns greenish-yellow and methyl red gives a red coloration. The combination of the two changes the solution to red under acidic conditions and green under basic conditions, traversing a grey color at around pH 5.1. This quick change renders the indicator ideal for the determination of pH in the laboratory.
